About Our Scholarship

The Lawrence County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association began awarding a $500.00 scholarship in the summer of 1991. The first recipient was Elizabeth Ann Hennon, a graduate of Mohawk High School. The scholarship is open to any senior of Lawrence County attending any PennState campus in the Fall semester.

Since that first $500.00 scholarship in 1991, the organization has awarded over $19,250.00 in scholarships to local Lawrence County graduates.  In 2004, the Alumni Association began awarding two $500.00 scholarships.  In 2009 and 2010, they awarded three $500.00 scholarships, and in 2011, they awarded three $750.00 scholarships.

The scholarship applications are mailed to the local High School Guidance Counselors in the month of March every year, and the deadline to apply is May, 31st. An anonymous committee selects the winners. No one from the Alumni Association is on the committee.
